Ultimately, though, how I weigh the tradeoffs between the risk of a rogue district court judge issuing a lawless sentence, the diminished utility of the appeal-waiver bargaining chip, and the potential food of new appeals should not matter. In the absence of a legal principle saying otherwise, Hunter's plea agreement and appeal waiver are valid and should be enforced.
