After the district court signed off on the parties' deal and accepted Mr. Hunter's guilty plea, it turned to the question of an appropriate sentence. While Mr. Hunter pleaded guilty and admitted to stealing $38,648.77 in one transaction, the district court proceeded to sentence him as someone who stole $488,352.25 in 26 transactions. See id., at 20a–21a; Presentence Investigation Report in No. 23–cr–85 (SD Tex.), ECF Doc. 125, pp. 10–13. Some of these additional funds and transactions were the subject of counts the government agreed to dismiss in exchange for Mr. Hunter's guilty plea.
