Section 922(g) appears to exceed Congress's powers under the Commerce Clause. Congress has the power to “regulate Commerce . . . among the several States.” U. S. Const., Art. I, § 8, cl. 3. As a matter of both original meaning and this Court's precedents, Congress lacks the power to regulate the possession of frearms solely on the ground that they crossed state lines at some point in the past.
