Due in large part to the difficult conditions at home, many Haitians have come to this country throughout our history. And beginning with the more than 500 Haitians who fought to support American independence at the Battle of Savannah in 1779,Haitians have made many positive contributions to the United States from the very beginning, and they continue to do so today.
