Whitton's boots had blood spatter in them consistent with a stabbing that created “ `forceful bloodshed.' ” App. to Pet. for Cert. 4a; see Tr. of State Court Proceedings in Whitton v. Secretary, Fla. Dept. of Corrections, No. 4:15–cv–00200 (ND Fla.), ECF Doc. 73–2, p. 927. Whitton hypothesized that the blood had seeped upwards into his socks through the bottom of his boots when he happened upon Maulden's already-dead body. But, the blood spatter showed that Maulden was again lying: The blood had fowed downward. See ECF Doc. 73–2, p. 927; App. to Pet. for Cert. 4a.
