At trial, the State introduced even more evidence against Whitton. At 2:37 a.m. on the night of Maulden's murder, Whitton purchased a car wash ticket. The day after the murder, Whitton paid off hundreds of dollars' worth of debt. And, two witnesses—Jake Ozio and Kenneth McCullough— testified that Whitton confessed to the murder. When Ozio gave that testimony, he denied that he had been arrested before.
